Oophorectomy / Salpingectomy

Laparoscopic or open USO or BSO is the removal of one or both ovaries and fallopian tubes using keyhole or open surgery.

This operation is usually performed for women who have been diagnosed with an ovarian cyst and the operation is done to determine the diagnosis of the nature of the ovarian cyst/cysts. It can also be performed for risk reduction surgery (women who have a genetic mutation or strong family history of ovarian and/or breast cancer) and for treatment for PMDD. In many cases women will be able to take HRT to replace oestrogen and this will be discussed in clinic.
