Management of Endometriosis

Endometriosis is where cells like those in the lining of the womb grow in other parts of the body. Miss Tipples recognises what a huge impact it can have on your life and there are treatments that she can discuss with you to help manage your symptoms.

Currently, the gold standard way to diagnose endometriosis is to perform a laparoscopy (this is discussed in the surgical section). However, it can also be identified on MRI and ultrasound scan.
There are no treatments to cure endometriosis but many ways to help manage symptoms. If you are struggling with endometriosis, we recommend looking at the endometriosis UK website, a registered charity in England and Wales which offers a great breadth of information and support:

Miss Tipples can discuss medical management in clinic (on its own or alongside surgery). This usually includes different hormones and analgesics. Options include:

  • Combined oral contraceptive pill (“the Pill”)
  • Intrauterine system (Mirena)
  • Progestogens (POP, Implanon)
  • GnRH analogues (“hormone blockers” such as Zoladex and Ryeqo)

Any of the above can be started in clinic (on the same day if wanted), response to treatment can be monitored and adapted. A combination of different treatments may be needed, and it can take some time to find the right combination. Miss Tipples will of course, support you through this.
