Contraception

Miss Tipples will:

  1. Ask about your health history:
    • Periods, migraines, smoking status, weight, medical conditions (e.g. blood pressure, clots, diabetes).
  2. Take measurements:
    • Blood pressure and possibly BMI (especially for the pill).
  3. Discuss options:
    • Help you choose based on your lifestyle, preferences, and medical safety.
  4. Prescribe or fit the method:
    • Miss Tipples will always aim to prescribe / fit your choice of contraception method immediately

There are two types of Prescribed Contraception Short-Acting and long-acting methods:

Short Acting

Method
Combined Pill Prescribed in 3–12 month batches
Mini Pill (progestogen-only) Same as above
Contraceptive Patch Prescription; replaced weekly
Vaginal Ring Inserted by you, changed monthly

Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC)

Method
Contraceptive Injection (Depo-Provera) Given every 12 weeks
Implant (Nexplanon) Fitted under skin in the upper arm; lasts 3 years
IUD (Copper coil) Fitted in uterus; lasts 5–10 years
IUS (Hormonal coil, e.g. Mirena) Fitted in uterus; lasts 3–6 years (depending on type)

Emergency Contraception

Method
Emergency Pill (Levonelle or ellaOne)
Copper IUD Most effective; must be fitted within 5 days of unprotected sex

Follow-Up & Repeat Prescriptions

  • Pill reviews are usually done annually, checking weight and blood pressure.
  • Injections, implants, and coils have scheduled renewals or replacements.
  • Miss Tipples can request your prescription to be continued by your GP once you're stable on a method (if preferred).
