An ultrasound scan is used to see images of the inside of your pelvis. Ultrasound in gynaecology is a quick and reliable way of investigating symptoms.
Usually in gynaecology the best way to view the anatomy is to perform an internal (transvaginal) ultrasound scan. For this, it is best to have an empty bladder. There is a private toilet in the examination room for you where you will need to undress from the waist down. There will be a nurse chaperone in the room while Miss Tipples undertakes the scan.
Miss Tipples will ask you to sit on the examination chair which will gently be laid back. Ultrasound gel is used with a cover to insert the probe. You will feel pressure, but it won’t be painful. The lights will be turned off to help see the images on the screen. You are in control and can ask Miss Tipples to stop at any time.
She will discuss the findings from the scan there and then and advise you if any further tests will be required.
