Hysterectomy

A hysterectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the womb (uterus). This can be performed by a laparoscopic (keyhole) approach, abdominal (incision across the abdomen) or vaginally. The decision on approach will be decided between Miss Tipples and the client and is usually centred around the indication for hysterectomy.

If you have not already gone through the menopause, you'll no longer have periods, regardless of your age. If you are having a hysterectomy, it’s important to consider whether to have your ovaries removed, this is usually recommended post menopause, but this will be covered during the consultation process.

Miss Tipples is a lead surgeon in the country in terms of experience in performing laparoscopic hysterectomy. She is a contributor to a national initiative in performing laparoscopic hysterectomy as a day case procedure (which is available at the Nuffield as an option).
